Epically beautiful pictures. (granted I had a gorgeous couple...but the beam of light!!! come on it's just too perfect). I was looking for the perfect light and I found it. That's what I do...look for light.
Oh yeah, there's lots more and they get better but they are for the happy couples eyes only for the time being.

ODE. : BEST new boutique in NOHO

Seriously. Every other place in downtown Northampton pales in comparison to owner Kristin Kelly's collection of Frye booties and shoes, cashmere wraps, the perfect black jeggings, amazing cocktail dresses, and cool local designers like TINY crush...the list could go on and on. She also features local artists every other Friday with a full on reception and party because she is a lover of the arts and enjoys connecting with the community. LOVE that.
Kristin herself is like her own best advertisement come to life. She has impeccable taste, is gorgeous, and will totally work with all of her customers to find them the perfect piece whatever occasion it may be. And she is a major sweetheart to boot. It's almost like having your own personal shopping expert. She also will hook you up with alterations so what you buy there fits perfectly. Did I mention her store makes me feel like I'm walking into SOHO Barney's? Ahhh, the good ole NY days....
Anyway, I feel so lucky and totally excited to have her as a client. I sense many amazing future shoots to come...
Here's one little sneak peak of a shot we did this past weekend...

Greenfield sugar crash...

Our pre- Halloween trick or treating festival in downtown Greenfield took place yesterday. On the way there I was enjoying watching people cruising through neighborhoods where there was no reference of it being Halloween except for their weird homemade costumes. Almost as if it's just another normal day and "oh I decided to wear my dracula cape fashioned of a black garbage bag and pair it with this tinfoil mask." The funny thing being that this kinda scene is not THAT unheard of happening on a regular day in Greenfield, which I find both entertaining and creepy simultaneously.
Miles couldn't get into his ghost pirate outfit and out the door fast enough. No time for his fake teeth, eye patch, and white face paint. He now has full understanding of what Halloween is all about : THE CANDY. We strolled around and met up with his good friend Jake who had this amazing homemade bat cape on. Look for our family portrait on the real Halloween...I think I'm going to be some sort of sea witch in lieu of the pirate / sea theme Miles has going on . :)

Roadside attraction...Sarah + Sean

Posted on: Thursday, October 7, 2010

One thing that makes me really adore the engagement shoot sessions is the fact that we get introduced to all these favorite little places of couples that we never would have seen or experienced if not for them! Sarah and Sean took us to their special place hidden deep in the Brattleboro countryside...windy dirt roads, old barns, rock wall ruins, and an old fashioned covered bridge....dreamy! These two really were amazing models and brought so many ideas to their shoot. Despite the fact that I had completely lost my voice 1/2 hour into the shoot + our huge balloon cluster flew away (hilarious) the pictures came out pretty amazing! I am so happy to have gotten to know them + can't wait to shoot their wedding in North Adams next September!

Don't you wish birthday cakes worked this way?

If these walls could talk...

They'd say how depressed they are from the 'warm vanilla' paint I hurriedly put on them when we moved in our house last fall. Well, at least it was better than the blood red wallpaper that was on from the previous owner. But now I am finally getting around to giving my dining room walls some well deserved love with gorgeous wallpaper from Madison + Grow. With Teresa's help (she is legendary color consultant/ specialist around these parts as well as being a wallpaper designer), she suggested the Madison paper in Iced Mocha for my dining room. I have lots of wood trim in my house, which I have a love / hate relationship with, LOTS of photos, vinatge paintings, thrift store finds, chandeliers, etc...it's one big hodgepodge of a collection and I think this paper might help tie things together a bit more.
What you can't tell from the picture is that the creamy white part of the design is actually a pearlescent off white. It's shimmery, yet subtle. I think it helps make it more of a soft wash of pattern. I think i will love it. And we're gonna do floor to ceiling instead of just above the chair rail to lengthen the walls..a little design tip from Teresa. Now I just have to barter with my sister's husband to come up and hang it for me.....

On location with Water House Pools this weekend in upstate New York....
Chlorine is so passe. It turns blond hair green, causes asthma in kids and who knows what else. For his pools, designer Chris Rawlings creates a whole eco friendly filtration system, using ZERO chemicals. I had the privilege of swimming in this one on Saturday and I felt like I was swimming in some kind of magical pool out of a fantasy movie. The water was pristine....so clear I could see all the way to the bottom, and little minnows swam around me. Little pebble pathways lead to the edge of the pool and giant golden slabs of stone descended into the pool forming an underwater staircase. Little frogs jumped about in the lotus patch, and a turtle sunned itself. The pool surface mirrored the blue sky and the clouds floating by as the kids ran across a large stone bridge and took turns jumping in the water. I'm so spoiled by the experience. After swimming in one of his natural pools, regular pools just don't seem as good. I just love it when people introduce me to things I didn't know I needed.
p.s. his lovely wife Dre helped art direct :)

TINY crush LOOK BOOK sneak peek

Posted on: Wednesday, September 8, 2010

When we're not photographing weddings + interiors we're usually working on something for designer Dre Rawlings. It's more like playing than working really! Her new collection is almost up on her website and you'll be able to shop her designs online shortly.
We shot this look book at Hallmark Institute of Photography's studio bays. Big thanks to Lisa Robinson and the school for being so gracious and generous. If only I had known about this school before I went to a four year program! They have amazing teachers and facilites and ohhhhh GREG HEISLER teaches there! Here's a link to their site:

Fall Part 1 : Cheap Boots

Posted on: Sunday, September 5, 2010

I've always been kind of a boot snob...but this year, economy being what it is, I really would like to spend under $300 dor a stellar pair. Comfort is really important to me and I need something I can run through both fields and ballrooms on my photography jobs. I usually stick with Camper, Fluevog, or FRYE (my fav), but her re some super cute shoes from BLOWFISH. The prices are a little unreal...$59-$69! Really?

"Jo and Braden- the engagement pictures you took of us are beautiful! I
felt that you really captured who we are as a couple. The recreation
of my favorite painting- "The Kiss' by Gustav Klimt where Chris and I
are the subjects is absolutely stunning. We look like an actual
painting!! It's like you pulled it right out of my dreams. Thank you
so much- we can't wait until the wedding!"
