You rang?

Recently I've left a corporate job and I need to get some new calling cards. It's always best to have a card rather than scribbling your number down on a napkin or post it. So because I am undecided on my business logo at the moment and I need something in the meantime, I thought these calling cards found on Etsy were a stylish and affordable solution.

Propmaster prop faster.....

Posted on: Wednesday, October 31, 2007

I found this article on NYC prop stylist Judy Singer that really sums up the total experience of being a prop stylist and discusses what it takes to keep a business thriving. Here's a little sample from the article:

.......Singer is unfazed by idiosyncratic clients. "It's simple," she says. "When they throw tantrums, I just smile and nod and smile and nod. And then I go out and find the most beautiful and appropriate objects I can find, cross my fingers and pray that everyone will calm down and realize that the show must go on and that these props I've brought provide the perfect setting for the product being sold. On a good day it works."
If your curious about being a prop stylist, this is the article for you... this site also gives dayrates, resources, and advice from an experienced individuals.

Assisting Miss Blow

Here's a link to a snippet about what it was like to assist one of the legendary stylists of our time; Isabella Blow and what qualities she looked for in an assistant. (Please note the best accessory in the world: the French Bulldog...yes Isabella knew what was up!) The guy with the beard is Kentaro Poteliakhoff, assistant to Isabella Blow. It sounds like she was a bit of a nightmare to work for, but what creative person isn't? I wonder what he is doing now.

Lets get some shoes...lets do it.

After 3 months of endless searching and many unvictorious ebay bids, I finally decided upon these lovelies. I'm still bitter that some chick outbid me by 2 bucks for those Sigerson Morrison boots, but these boots by Gianni Binni will do. I needed something under $100, tall, flat, brown, well made, and something I could wear daily. They are so comfy and great for running around town or meeting with clients. Looks great with tights and slouchy gray sweater dress......

Give it some glam man: Pearlescent Mica Wallcovering

A perfect choice to add a little subtle sheen and glam to those old backgrounds from Osborne and Little! Great spring colors to choose from as well. You must open an account with these people and the paperwork is painful, but it's worth it. Ever see a great interior ad or catalog environment and wonder where they get their wallpaper? Well, O&L is at the top of the list. Here's a list of my other favorite resources:

Illustration is making a huge comeback in advertising and fashion. I love Stina's work...it's like an collection of glowing memories.... really beautiful, hip, ethereal moments. I would love to do a series of photographs inspired by her technique and colors. She reminds me a little of photographer James Welling.........

Good things come in pairs: Minh + Wass

I want to live in their photographs.....Outrageously gorgeous environments that make you ask yourself; Who lives there and who is their decorator / stylist? Fantastic ideas for your own humble abode.....color combinations, textures, mixed and eclectic combinations of home accessories and furniture styles...all blended beautifully together. These two are a photographic team whose clients include Anthropologie, Bergdorf Goodman, and Kenneth Cole.
